For the second consecutive year, De La Salle’s baseball team has been lauded by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) for its success in the classroom as well as on the diamond.
The 2019 Meteors are one of 302 programs nationally to receive the 2018-19 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award. De La Salle is one of 96 high school teams honored.
In order to qualify for this plaudit, programs must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale and be coached by an ABCA member.
Including De La Salle, there are six high schools from the Chicagoland area recognized.

Vinnie Billa ‘19; Matt Boehm ‘20; Angel Cadena ‘19; David Chico ‘20; Jeremy Figueroa ‘20; Dominic Gallagher ‘19; Jayden Gonzalez ‘21; Cristian Granados ‘20; Jack Haran ’19 and Ben Hernandez ’20.

“Having our student-athletes succeed in the classroom is something upon which we place a great deal of emphasis,” De La Salle athletic director Tom White said. “We want our young women and men to succeed athletically, but having them thrive academically means so much more to everyone in the Meteor community.
“This is a wonderful accomplishment in which we all take ample amounts of pride.”
