Message From The President

Office of the President

Welcome to De La Salle Institute, where great futures begin!

Our Catholic, Lasallian, college preparatory high school in the heart of Bronzeville is home to 781 Meteors and 112 educators. Our caring faculty and staff commit to ensure that your formative years are ones of learning, loving and growing. Our education and co-curricular offerings support the Lasallian values expressed in the 1000 Lasallian schools existing in 77 countries: faith in God, service to others, community, social justice, academic excellence and respect. In choosing a Lasallian school, you are becoming a part of a worldwide family!

Founded in 1889, De La Salle Institute has graduated over 20,000 students, alumnae/i who have become doctors, lawyers, accountants, professional athletes, public servants, tradespeople, war heroes and more. We’re proud of the diversity of our community, which richly reflects the diversity of our city.

“Teaching minds and touching hearts” is commonly heard in Lasallian schools to describe what our educators do every day. The witness of Jesus inspired St. John Baptist de La Salle in his life, eventually becoming a priest, establishing the Christian Brothers and the schools whose founding purpose was to provide all students who desire it with a private, Catholic education, teaching to the individual. Following God’s spirit in his life, Saint La Salle’s trailblazing methods for educating students and training teachers led him to be named the patron saint of teachers.

Our teachers have big shoes to fill because of our school’s namesake, and they do! Our talented, caring and dedicated faculty–including many who are graduates of De La Salle Institute and several who have taught here for decades–bring their passion for teaching to their vocation. They embody Saint La Salle’s core belief that teachers are ministers of Jesus Christ whose sacred calling is to touch the hearts and minds of the students entrusted to their care.

Come feel the spirit and warmth of our community, where all are known, valued and loved to be our unique best for God and our world. Experience for yourself the palpable presence of God’s spirit alive in our educators and students. We’d love to welcome you to our De La Salle Institute family and support you in the great work of YOUR one precious life!
