Congratulations to De La Salle student-athlete Ben Hernandez ’20, who was chosen as one of the 80 high school baseball players from across the country to participate in the upcoming Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) Program as sponsored by Major League Baseball and USA Baseball.

Hernandez, who is committed to the University of Illinois at Chicago, will participate this summer in the invitation-only PDP League that will last three weeks from mid-June through early July at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL.

The event will also serve as a primary identification opportunity for the USA Baseball 18U National Team.

Each of the 80 players will be placed on one of four teams, and the event will consist of competitive game play, practice and training sessions with MLB club representatives serving as on-field coaches, as well as evaluation using modern technologies to tailor an individualized development curriculum for each player.

Hernandez has pitched in nine games this season for De La Salle, making seven starts and posting a record of 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings. As a first baseman and designated hitter, Hernandez was batting .379 with six home runs, 16 RBI and 19 runs scored.

Best of luck on this outstanding opportunity, Ben! Everyone at De La Salle is very proud of you!
