Week of 01/10-01/19

  • On Tuesday, January 10th, Boys Basketball traveled to Mount Carmel to take on the Caravan. After the first half, the Meteors trailed by 15 and cut that lead to 5 after a strong third quarter, but unfortunately the Meteors fell in the end. The Meteors had two players in double figures with Junior, Richard Lindsey tallying 15 points, and Senior, Evan Jackson chiming in with 13 points and 7 rebounds. On January 13th, the Meteors welcomed the Broncos from Montini to the Parmer Activity Center. The Meteors got back in the win column by defeating Montini 64-47. The Meteors had three players in double figures, Richard Lindsey led the way with 15 points and 7 rebounds, Evan Jackson had 12 points and 9 rebounds, and Freshman, Charles Barnes had himself a nice game with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Sunday, January 15th, the Meteors took part in the Bob Hambric Classic and took on Farragut Academy. De La Salle was victorious for the second straight game by defeating Farragut, 55-51. Junior, Ali Mbaye recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds! Richard Lindsey had 11 points, and Evan Jackson had 10 points and 8 boards. Last night, the Meteors faced a tall task by welcoming the Mustangs of St. Rita to the Parmer Center. The student section was packed with raucous students and aiding the Meteors. In the end, it wasn’t enough as the Meteors fell 58-45. The Meteors battled the entire game, but a strong 3rd quarter helped the Mustangs. Senior, Evan Jackson shot 50% from the 3-point stripe and had a total of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Richard Lindsey helped with 12 points. The Meteors are home again tonight, January 20th as they take on St. Laurence!
  • Girls Basketball played Providence, IC Catholic Prep and Resurrection. The Girls are battling hard, but things are not falling their way. Although they are in a tough stretch right now, Senior, Heaven Cusic has had two straight double-doubles! Against Providence, she had 7 points and 11 rebounds. Against IC Catholic Heaven had 12 points and 19 rebounds, and against Resurrection, she had 18 points and 18 rebounds. Kam Porter is having an unbelievable season for the Meteors. She scored in double figures in every game this past week, registering 10 points against Providence, and 19 points against both IC Catholic and Resurrection. Tonight, the Girls take on Phillips at 4:00pm looking to right the ship!
  • Meteor Wrestling finally came home for a meet and hit the mats with Kenwood Academy and St. Rita. In their first matchup against Kenwood, the Meteors defeated Kenwood 65-13. Winners of the match were Anthony Trendle, Mario Perez, Jeffrey Sorich, Malik Warren, Josue Hernandez, Terrelle Jackson, Evan Smith, Peter Shanna, and David McCarthy. The Meteors unfortunately fell to the Mustangs. The Meteors held a 4-point advantage until the final match. The final was 40-38 and the winners of the match for the Meteors were Raymond Alvarado, Malik Warren, Josue Hernandez, Terrelle Jackson, Evan Smith, Zion Nix, and David McCarthy. With these results, Wrestling moved to 15-3 on the season! The Meteors battle for the CCL Tournament tomorrow at Marmion Academy at 9:00am. Don’t forget Wrestling Alumni, next week is Senior Night on January 25th against Bremen, Fenton, and St. Ignatius. Alumni are welcome to stay following the meet for food and beverages!
  • Girls Bowling traveled to Arena Lanes on Monday, January 9th to face off against St. Laurence. After a hot start and a tight battle all the way through, the girls fell just short of a victory. Top Scores were Yasmin Sawyer – 169, Nora McManus – 167, Alyssa Lunn – 150, and Annamarie Arredia with a 146. The Girls JV bowling team is on fire!  They continued their undefeated season, beating St Laurence last night. Top Bowlers were Anna Goga – 161, Aolani Villasenor – 150, Sheila Arvetis – 131, and Ella Falconio with a 130. On January 12th, the Varsity girls bowling team played Marist.  After a hot start and two close games versus the top team on the South Side, the Meteors bid for an upset came just short. Top Scores were Nora McManus – 180, Annamarie Arredia – 162, and Yasmin Sawyer – 155. The JV girls bowling team extended their lead in the GCAC South division with a 3-game sweep over Marist, staying undefeated on the season. Top Bowlers were Emma Woods – 167, Ella Falconio – 146, and Aolani Villasenor – 138. Thursday, January 26th, Girls Bowling will be competing in the Positional Round.
