Chicago – August 11, 2022 – De La Salle Institute (De La Salle) is pleased to announce Coach Rich Barnotes ’10 as the new Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach. Coach Rich has been working with the Lacrosse Program as an Assistant Offensive Coach for the last five years.
“Coach Rich has helped create a positive and structured environment for student-athletes as an assistant here at De,” said Athletic Director Tom White. “He has a good understanding on how to educate young people on how to accomplish their best. I know he will motivate his players to excel at peak performance. In fact, I saw great leadership in Rich many years ago as a student leader here at De.”
“I’m really excited to come home to De La Salle. I’ve walked the halls, I’ve sat in the desks, and played on our school’s fields,” said Barnotes. “To be named Head Coach of the Lacrosse Program means everything to me. “I’m going to ask a lot of our student-athletes. I love that Lacrosse takes all 10 players performing in sync to be successful, and that’s why I stand by the coaching philosophy of ‘It’s WE not ME.’
Coach Rich knows the importance of a quality education. “Finding success in the classroom is the most important step in being able to enjoy the sport of lacrosse,” said Barnotes. “I will challenge our students not only on the field, but to be their best self in the classroom, too. I want the Lacrosse Program’s legacy to be one of academic and on field excellence.”
Coach Rich was an Offensive Midfielder during his time at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. There, he and the Fighting Bees were a part of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA). “Being a part of the first ever Lacrosse Program at Saint Ambrose meant a lot to me,” said Coach Rich Barnotes. “I built strong bonds with my teammates that have remained intact, if not become stronger over the years.”
Coach Rich Barnotes was a member of the inaugural Lacrosse team at De La Salle. “I’m excited to start my Head Coaching career at my alma mater. Go Meteors.”
