Tolton Center is an adult education and family literacy center in Little Village. Tolton Center strives to support families holistically, with a special focus on empowerment through education.

Position Summary
The Tolton Center Instructor position is a salaried Part-Time position. The Instructor will teach beginner level students virtually and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and excellence. The Instructor will report to and collaborate with the Program Director.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create two asynchronous lessons for students to complete each week, to be posted on Google Classroom
  • Correct and provide feedback to students on their completed assignments
  • Facilitate synchronous lessons in small groups over Zoom
  • Offer office hours to help students with coursework
  • Maintain up to date student attendance records
  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings
  • Complete a minimum of three professional development hours
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching ESL classes
  • Cross-cultural competency
  • Good classroom management skills with the ability to create a safe space conducive to learning
  • Proficient in Google Classroom and Zoom or willing to learn
  • Proficient in creating videos or willing to learn
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Knowledge of Spanish is preferred

Why Virtual:

Virtual classes allow adults who work to participate, when they would not be able to otherwise. In FY22, more students than ever before reported that participation in Tolton’s classes led to real income opportunities as they were promoted and landed new jobs with better pay and benefits. Tolton plans to continue virtually at this time to continue to serve students is this niche way.
