The class of 2022 joined the more than 30,000 graduates who have received their diploma from De La Salle. Notably, De La Salle Institute is part of a worldwide network of Lasallian schools with schools throughout the United States and on nearly every continent. These relationships provide for rich cultural, educational and service opportunities for our students and educators.

St. John Baptist De La Salle
Our school was named in his honor. Born in Rheims, France, in 1651, St. John Baptist de La Salle was canonized a saint in 1900 and declared the Patron Saint of Teachers in 1950. He is the founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (also known as Christian Brothers) and was a pioneer in education who aimed to transform the lives of young people. The Lasallian mission of Faith, Service, Community, and Social Justice is thriving in educational and spiritual ministries throughout the world.
School History
Brother Adjutor of Mary founded De La Salle Institute in 1889. The goal was to give young men from the Stockyard communities access to an education that could help them participate in Chicago’s booming economy and industry. De La Salle started as a three-year commercial high school and today is a four-year college preparatory high school that for decades has successfully launched our alumni into the world and equipped them with the knowledge and values to navigate their professional lives.
Diverse Student Body
The Christian Brothers have guided young women and men at De La Salle in both academic and spiritual development. For over a hundred years, De La Salle Institute has been and continues to be a community–inclusive of various religious, ethnic, and economic backgrounds–working together to achieve a shared mission steeped in Lasallian tradition.
Co-Educational High School
In our 130+ years of educating young people to be strong in mind, body, and spirit, we welcomed young women as Meteors at De La Salle's women's campus in 2002, and made the complete transition to a coeducational high school in 2017.
