Cancelled: PFC Omar E. Torres Memorial Picnic 2021

By March 31, 2021August 26th, 2022No Comments
On behalf of the Torres Family we are sharing their note to the De La Salle community about cancelling the 2021 Omar E. Torres Memorial Picnic.
The Torres family hopes you are all doing well. We know that you have been taking care of yourselves and your families throughout this pandemic. During the past year, we want you to know that our thoughts have been with each one of you. We pray that you have all been staying healthy and well.
In March of 2020 when the severity of this situation began to develop, we were in contact with Fr. Paul at De La Salle Institute. At that time, we agreed to cancel the picnic for 2020 due to the health and safety of all involved. We were truly heartbroken, but we felt it was the best decision based on the evidence presented to us by state and federal authorities along with our concern for the well-being of our supporters.
Moving forward to the beginning of 2021, we were in contact with Fr. Paul again. With the pandemic still ravaging our state and country along with the current state and federal guidelines in place, he counseled us to unfortunately cancel the picnic again for 2021. It is our wish and our prayer that we all overcome this terrible COVID 19 pandemic quickly. We have decided to move forward to begin planning a bigger and better picnic for 2022.
During the year we received many calls and emails asking how to donate to the Omar E. Torres Scholarship Fund. If you are interested in donating this year, checks can be sent to:
De La Salle Institute
P F C Omar E. Torres ’05 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
3434 S Michigan Ave
Chicago, Illinois 60616
We thank you in advance for any donation you make in our son and brother Omar’s memory. The Torres family has always been most grateful for the amazing support in funding this scholarship over the years. Next year, with the grace of God, we will have a tremendous turnout and raise a significant amount of money for the scholarship so that we can continue to help the deserving students at De La Salle Institute reach their aspirations.
God bless each one of you and again, thank you!…
