An Eye On The Future!
Responding to the needs of young people has been the mandate of the
Christian Brothers for more than 300 years. And though the number of
Brothers teaching in schools throughout the world, De La Salle
included, is significantly less, their mission remains alive and well
within the capable and dedicated hands of lay people who continue their
educational work. These educators are referred to as Lasallians, and
their schools respectively called Lasallian Schools.
Since its founding in 1889, De La Salle Institute has been a leader in
value-based, Christian education. The school is attuned to the needs of
its students and of its local community prepared to respond with
innovative educational initiatives.
For instance, in 1991, the Tolton Education Center was established to
address the concerns of adult literacy. Today, there are five sites
serving 1200 students annually. Since its founding 5000 adults have
been served.
Faced with limited options for single gender Catholic education for
young women, De La Salle Institute in 2001 joined with the Sisters of
St. Joseph Third Order of St. Francis to open a new campus for this
purpose. Today, the school known as De La Salle - Lourdes Hall, has a
student enrollment of 425 young women.
Due to the nature of today's changing society, our students require an
academic setting that will prepare each young man and young woman with
the necessary life-skills that will allow them to think critically,
assume leadership, to live in and appreciate a diverse, integrated
society, and to be emotionally prepared to deal with life's
complexities. In response, De La Salle has its eye on a future that
De La Salle Institute
(Main Campus)

calls for aggressive plans to construct state of the art academic
facilities for both of its campuses and invest substantially in its
educational programs. These plans include modern equipment and
creatively-designed laboratories, workshops, classrooms, support
spaces, and athletic fields so that all De La Salle students would have
a competitive learning edge.

Lourdes Hall Campus Expansion
This major expansion project for De La Salle's new campus for young
women will expand the current facility by 50 percent in order to
accommodate a new science center, assembly halls, a student commons
area, and fine arts and music rooms.

We hope this glimpse of our future catches your eye so together, with
your support, we can continue graduating students of competence and
character and who are prepared to engage in different cultures and make
a real difference at local, national and international levels.
