De La Salle Girls Varsity Soccer Program Has Successful Season

Wiggins Is Meteor MVP; Alvarez, Burke, Cline, Sotelo, Wiggins Make All-GCAC Team;
Cline Chosen IHSSCA All-Sectional

De La Salle Institute proudly announces that the following student-athletes from its Lourdes Hall Campus for Young Women have received plaudits for their achievements during the 2010 season.

• Chosen to the All-Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Team were junior midfielder Veronica Alvarez, senior defender Candice Burke, sophomore midfielder Katie Cline, sophomore forward Wendy Sotelo and senior defender Marquita Wiggins.

• Wiggins was chosen De La Salle’s MVP this season, while Sotelo led the Meteors in goals for the second consecutive season with 16.

• Alvarez, Hanna Bansley, Burke, Nadia Carmona, Selena Hernandez, Antionette Johnson, Lauren Nowaczyk, Herlinda Sanchez, Wiggins and Maricruz Zarco were named to the GCAC All-Academic Team.

• Cline was named to the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Sectional Team.

• Burke and Wiggins were chosen to the IHSSCA All-Sectional Honorable Mention Team.

• Burke was voted to the Chicago Red Stars’ All-Academic Special Mention Team, while Wiggins was named to the Chicago Red Stars’ All-Academic Honorable Mention Team.

De La Salle finished its season with an overall record of 9-7-1 and 6-1 in the GCAC White, good enough for second place. De La Salle congratulates head coach Tom Dufficy, his staff and their student-athletes on all their accomplishments this season and wishes them every future success.
