The Admissions Process

Grade School Students
To be admitted into De La Salle Institute, eighth graders must take the school's entrance exam held every year on the second Saturday in January in order to begin the application process. The next exam will be held Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. for the Class of 2012.

Transfer Students
In order to transfer into De La Salle Institute from another high school, students must contact our school's registrar at 312/842-7355, or print and return the application. Acceptance into De La Salle as a transfer student is based on grades the prospective student has earned at the school from which the student is seeking to transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of tuition?
Tuition for the 2007-2008 school year was $9,125 though no student paid the full cost of tuition. Most De La Salle students are eligible for the John Walter Clarke Educational Scholarship worth $1,825 (20%) which brings tuition down to $7,300. International students are not eligible for The John Walter Clarke Educational Schaolarship.

What type of financial aid is available?
Approximately 55% of our students receive help from De La Salle's financial assistance program, work-study program and scholarships. De La Salle provides more than $800,000 annually for financial assistance. For additional financial aid information click here.

What are the transportation options?
De La Salle students use public transportation to get to school by taking either the red or green "el" lines or through CTA bus service. We also offer seven private bus routes which are staffed by De La Salle employees and cover all of Chicago's South Side, Chinatown, the Near West Side and part of the North Side. The Institute Campus is serviced by the Red and Green Lines while the Lordes Hall Campus is serviced by the Orange Line.

What are the requirements to be admitted into De La Salle?
The best opportunity to gain admission into De La Salle as an eighth grader is to take the entrance examination at the school on Saturday morning January 12, 2008, and score over the 50th percentile.

Can I visit the school myself?
We encourage prospective students and their families to visit De La Salle. We can provide guided tours of the school's facilities any school day morning. Any junior high student is welcome to be a "shadow" to a current student and accompany that student during the course of his school day, interacting with teachers and students.

Open House Events

Students and their families are also invited to visit De La Salle at one of our open house events scheduled during the fall of the school year before the entrance exam in January. Faculty, staff and students are on hand at the open house to answer any questions you may have regarding curriculum, extracurricular activities, sports programs, tuition, financial aid, student services and student life.

Entrance Exam Date

Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 8:00 A.M.
Any 8th grade student wishing to gain admittance to the freshman class at De La Salle for the 2008-2009 school year must take the exam on this date.
