Minutes Taken by Bob Fiorentino ’00

  1. Minutes from meeting 4.19.07 approved unanimously.
  2. Discussion of how to get involved with the students during their 4 years at DLS was discussed. Some ways to get involved are:
    1. Open Houses
    2. First Day of School/Freshman Orientation
    3. Senior Pin Mass
      1. Practice is a bad opportunity
      2. Parent presents pin if he/she is an alumnus/a
    4. Honor Roll certificate presentation days
    5. Creating an Alumnus of the month
      First two alumni will be chosen in August for September & October
    6. Blue/Gold Game
    7. Junior Ring Mass
    8. Everything done must be done at both campuses
  3. Alumni Banquet Committee Report was provided by Tony Khazen, Mike Chmiel, and Bob Fiorentino
    1. Association agreed honoring Larry Wenshutonis at the banquet would be appropriate and should be used as a selling point
    2. Bob went over the minutes from the meeting to notify the association of action taken by the committee and planned in the future.
    3. Association feels class of ’57 should have some rights when determining whether to hire a piano player or not.
    4. The association agrees with the recommendation of the committee to move the banquet downtown for 2008.
    5. Bob is sending the honor key criteria to the banquet committee as well as the association members who regularly attend meetings
  4. Fundraising was discussed. Ideas include:
    1. $25 Super Pass – Allows bearer to admission to DLS sporting events, theater productions, musical recitals, etc.
    2. Can help create a sense of autonomy for the association if funds are being raised
    3. Question was raised as to how much must be raised – at least $1,000 per year to cover pins
    4. Ad book extremely important to the fundraising aspect of the banquet. Money can possibly be transferred to the association
    5. DLS alumni apparel is another option to make money. T-shirts would be the first option. Bob will look into it.
    6. John Lorenz will look into having polo shirts printed for the active Association members.
  5. Mission Statement was discussed again. The point was made that a statement should focus on the following:
    1. Mission
    2. Structure
    3. Committee
  6. Next meeting a discussion must take place regarding the nomination of new Board Members.
